Jesse Lingard 'wants to stay at Manchester United'

Manchester United attacker Jesse Lingard has reportedly informed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer of his desire to remain with the Red Devils.

The England international struggled to force his way into the Norwegian's plans during the first half of the 2020-21 season, but he proceeded to reignite his career on loan at West Ham United.

Lingard struck nine goals and assisted five more in 16 appearances as David Moyes's men secured Europa League football, and the Hammers are understandably keen to sign him on a permanent basis.

However, The Sun reports that Lingard has instead told Solskjaer that he sees his future at Old Trafford, and he has also informed his friends of his decision.

The report adds that Lingard is not totally opposed to a permanent move at West Ham, though, and the potential arrival of Jadon Sancho would hinder his game time at Old Trafford next season.

The 28-year-old remains contracted to the Red Devils for another 12 months, but he has supposedly been offered a new deal by the club.

I think his preference would always be to stay at Man U if he can get game time. Whether Ole tells him he is going to play though will probably make his mind up.

Spend the money in someone else. I reckon it’s unlucky we will get the same kind of form about of him next season

Re: Jesse Lingard 'wants to stay at Manchester United'
It's unlikely he will keep scoring at the rate he did for us.

If the fee was reasonable, I'd be happy if he joined, but I wouldn't be too upset if he doesn't want to stay. There's plenty of other players out there, with fewer miles on the clock

Re: Jesse Lingard 'wants to stay at Manchester United'
I just hope we don't overpay for him if we do get him.
I feel like he's a good player, especially when everyone else is playing well. But when the team is struggling he isnt the "difference". He doesnt transform the team. He isnt a Payet or anything like that. And he is no way as important as Rice or Antonio for me (players that generally make the difference all the time).

Maybe this was an affair instead of a marriage?

Your funeral Jesse.

You’d think he’s clever enough to realise that regular first team football got him back into the England squad - not sitting on a bench.

Re: Jesse Lingard 'wants to stay at Manchester United'
If he is happy to play a bit part (ot maybe no part) in the Utd team then more fool him. If he can’t make the England squad after his purple patch with us he is unlikely to do ao going back to Man Utd!

I doubt he’ll be at Man Utd next season as he’s not consistent enough and never has been.

Re: Jesse Lingard 'wants to stay at Manchester United'
With this report being from the Sun I would take it with a pinch of salt. The other day another news outlet was saying he would love to join us so I doubt anyone outside Lingard himself really knows.

I do think Moyes need to privately ask him (It’s technically against the rules but everyone does it) if he wants to join or not and if he is undecided give him until the end of June to give us a definite answer.

We don’t want to be wasting the entire summer waiting around for someone to make a decision when we could be identifying other players in that position.

Personally I think he would be foolish to think he can go back go to Man Utd and establish himself as a first team regular. With Sancho probably coming in and Bruno Fernandes playing in his favoured position he’s going to struggle.

Re: Jesse Lingard 'wants to stay at Manchester United'
Like I said on the transfer thread on Wednesday, was told at the start of the week by someone not directly involved but close enough to know what’s been going on that he wants to join and his club are “fucking him about”

Glad to see the reaction on here as no doubt some fans will think this is awful news if it’s true.

Like someone said, he’s no Payet, he’s not an individual game changer and very unlikely to show same form again, he tailed off towards end of season.

All that said, if we get him fit a reasonable price then great, but if he dies elsewhere, no buggy.

Re: Jesse Lingard 'wants to stay at Manchester United'
He would be wise to reject any offer of a new contract from the Mancs. Then he can move next January for a reasonable fee or next summer for wherever he wants for fuck all.
If he doesn't end up here,I wouldn't lose any sleep. I'm sure Moyes has alternative affordable targets.

Typical Sun story
No quotes and a load of 'he said she said'

Am sure the player will speak eventually and hopefully we are prepared for both eventualities. Just need it to be resolved asap so we can move on if need be.

Moyes first signing looks nailed on

Posted by Hugh5outhon1895 on June 12, 2021 in News, Whispers

Jesse Lingard now looks a nailed-on certainty to join the Hammers and hopefully Manchester United won’t play their usual long winded game in letting the lad leave.

Our northern correspondent Terry Robbins revealed a few days ago that Lingard’s would make no decision on joining the Hammers until David Moyes had signed a new deal.
